H.E. Ambassador Michael Oliver Powell
Current Diplomat and Former Deputy Prime Minster, St. Kitts and Nevis

Michael Oliver Powell is a politician and former Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Career

He retained the seat (now St. Christopher #1) in 1984, and was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism in the Dr. Kennedy Simmonds led PAM/NAP Administration. He retained his seat in the 1989 election. He continued to serve as Prime Minister until 1992. During those 12 years of government service, Ambassador Powell oversaw a range of portfolios at various points, to include Agriculture, Lands, Housing, Labour, Tourism, and Social Security, and he was also Leader of Government Business in Parliament.

In 1993, Powell lost his seat to Asim Martin of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP). In 1995, running on the United People's Party (UPP) ticket, he failed to recapture the seat.

Powell currently serves as an Ambassador and Special Envoy in the Office of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.
